Day 18? Crazy. Still got more to go. If this was back in the day, my hands would be cramped. Thank God for computers and technology.

Today’s prompt: Write a story about one event from the different perspectives of multiple friends.

Enjoy!

“Well, this is what I remember. Terrence and I were upstairs in our room playing video games. I think it was about 7pm. Out of nowhere, we heard a loud scream from outside. We ignored it at first, but it happened again. I told Terrence that I’m going to check it out. Because this whole week, something has happened in our neighborhood. Whether it was a robbery, stabbing, whatever. This week was hot on the block.”

In the interrogation room, Officer Scott stands and shuffles through papers, and Officer Richards sits and twiddles his thumbs. Scott sighs and says, “Ok. So, these three kids were at the scene when you arrived, right?” Scott asks Richards. Richards replies, “No, only the girl. The two boys showed up as I was apprehending the girl.” Scott rubs his forehead and says, “Ok, bring them in.” Out in the hallway, Matthew, Terrence, and LaToya are sitting on a bench and talking amongst themselves. “Don’t worry, Toya. We got this,” Matthew says to LaToya. LaToya nods her head and looks down. She rubs her arm and sighs. Suddenly, Officer Richards calls to Matthew. Matthew gets up and walks over to the room. He scowls at Richards before he walks in then sits down. Richards closes the door and sits down. “Ok, son. I need you to understand how serious this is,” Scott says to Matthew. Matthew nods and looks at Scott. “Now, tell me exactly what you remember,” Scott says to Matthew. Matthew sighs and begins his story:

“Anyway. I got up and walked to the window. When I looked down at the courtyard, I saw LaToya sitting on one o the benches with her face in her hands. It looked like she was crying, but I wasn’t sure. So, I told Terrence that I was going downstairs. He went to the bathroom. When I got downstairs, she was still on the bench, but she was looking around. It’s like she was looking for someone. I walked over to her, then out of nowhere, this ass hole over here rushed me.”

Officer Richards cuts him off and says, “You damn right. Those damn animals were especially crazy this week.” Matthew looks at Richards in disgust then continues his story.

“After he bum-rushed me and tackled me to the ground and started to cuff me, LaToya got up and ran over to us. She was screaming, ‘Get off of him, you bastard!’ And started punching him on his back. He turned and slapped LaToya to the ground. By that time, Terrence had come downstairs. This jerk cuffed LaToya and turned to looks at Terrence. Terrence stood there and put his hands up. But did that matter? No! He STILL pulled his gun put and told Terrence to get on the floor. Terrence listened, and he eventually cuffed Terrence, too. We all ended up on the bench while he was son his walk-in talkie. Then, LaToya told us..”

“Watch your mouth, boy,” Richards sternly says to Matthew. Matthew replies, “Fuck you, pig.” Richards quickly jumps up from his seat and stands directly in front of Matthews. Matthew doesn’t flinch and stares directly into Richards’ eyes. “Hey, hey. Sit down, Richards,” Scott says as he pulls Richards out of Matthews’s face. “This isn’t some good cop, bad cop bullshit.” Richards sits and crosses his arms. Scott looks at Matthews and says, “Continue.”

“I was playing video games with Matt. He said he heard a scream. He went to check it out, and I came down a little after. When I got down there, he saw me, pointed his gun at me, and told me to get down. I got down, and he came over and cuffed me.”

Suddenly, Richards got up and slammed his hand on the table. “I will not be lied on!” He yelled. “These punk ass kids attacked me!” He continued. Matthews stands up and shouts back, “Bullshit! You know what you did, pig!” Richards lunges at Matthews, but Scott stops him. “Richards! What the hell did I say to you? Now, sit!” Richards grumbles and sits back down. “Ok, son. I think we got what we needed form you. Go back to the hall,” Scott says to Matthew. Matthew shakes his head, gets up, and leaves. Scott looks at Richards and sternly says, “You need to calm your ass down now!” Richards grumbles again. Out in the hallway, the three are still talking. Richards comes out and calls Terrence. He gets up and walks to the room. Terrence sits down and never looks at Richards. “Ok. Terrence, right?” Scott asks. Terrence nods. “Now, tell me what you remember.” Terrence begins his story:

Scott looks at him and replies, “That’s all you remember?” Terrence nods. “Ok, thank you. You can go back outside,” Scott says. Terrence slowly gets up and walks out. “Well, he was useless,” Richards snidely says. Scott looks at him and shakes his head. He then sends Richards to call for LaToya. As Richards opens the door, he is startled to see LaToya already standing in front of the room. She is looking down. “Come in,” Richards says. She looks up at him reluctantly then walks in. She sits down and looks at Scott. Scott softly says, “Hello, LaToya. I’m sorry that you went through this tonight. If you can, tell me what happened.” LaToya looks at Scott for a few seconds then looks over at Richards and squirms a bit. Scott notices this. Richards looks at her in a bit of frustration. LaToya begins to speak then she breaks down crying. Scott walks over and comforts her. “It’s ok, take your time,” Scott says. Richards is now sitting up and staring at LaToya. Scott looks at him and grimaces. LaToya softly says, “I don’t…I don’t feel like talking.” She then moves in her chair towards Scott. Richards scoffs and sits back in his chair. LaToya looks at him with an angry face. Scott sees this and says, “Ok, LaToya. You can go back outside.” LaToya slowly gets up and walks out. She walks back over to the bench and sits down. Matthew and Terrence comfort her. After a few minutes, the three hear some arguing inside the interrogation room. They look on in curiosity. Suddenly, the door swings open, and Scott is holding a handcuffed Officer Richards. “Get this shit off me! You’re gonna believe that bitch?! I didn’t touch her!” Richards yells as he fights Scott. Scott replies, “I don’t give a damn who you are. Relax, or I will tase you.” He then calls for another officer who comes and grabs Richards and takes him away. Scott sighs and walks over to the three. He stands in front of LaToya and bends down to talk to her. “LaToya. On behalf of this precinct, I want to apologize for Officer Richards. I will personally make sure he is persecuted to the full extent of the law, ok?” LaToya looks at him and smiles a bit. “Thank you, Officer,” she replies. He smiles back and says, “We’re going to take you to the hospital so they can properly check you out. Come on.” LaToya gets up, and Matthew and Terrence follow.
