Day 26? I can’t believe it! Can you? I’m proud of what I’ve done so far. I know my old teachers would be even prouder. Anyways, todays prompt is pretty fun. Ill try and do it justice.

Today’s prompt: Superheroes save the world…but they also leave a lot of destruction in their wake. Write about a normal person in a superhero’s world.

Enjoy!

It’s been different in the world since 2016. It was almost like out of movie, when a superhero appeared, bearing the name Ultraman. Of course, everyone was skeptical but for the years to follow, it soon became the norm. He was now a known hero in Miami, putting fear into criminals and righting the justice system for everyone. Unfortunately, a hero being present meant there were also villains. Luckily, UltraMan thwarts them just as easy. However, there are exceptions to everything.

Whether it be a villain or hero, some people didn’t see the need for either.

Fifth Avenue is pretty crowded. Tons of people flood the sidewalk as they walk to their destinations. Stanley excitedly heads down the street while texting. With an ear to ear grin, he stares at his phone and reads a text that just came in.

I’ll see you at 5pm, baby 😉, the text from Sharon reads.

Stanley replies, I can’t wait! 😀.

While putting his phone in his pocket, he looks down the street and sees the bus arriving. He starts to jog toward the bus stop when suddenly, there’s a loud boom. He stops in his tracks and looks to see where it came from. He sees non-other than UltraMan fighting with Captain Evil in the middle of the sky.

“Aww, dammit! I hate these super jerks!” Stanley says in frustration. “They always wanna fight when I have some shit to do!”

Running as fast as he can, he reaches the bus stop. Just then, UltraMan flies down with Captain Evil in his arms and tackles him through the bus, splitting it in half. Luckily, it was empty and nobody was hurt. The impact causes Stanley and others at the bus stop to fall to the ground. The bus driver screams and joins them on the sidewalk for safety. Everyone on the sidewalk is screaming and running for cover. UltraMan, sitting on top of Captain Evil, beats him until he is unconscious and the police arrive at the scene shortly after the fight finishes. They thank UltraMan then they cuff Captain Evil into the specialized villain squad car and drive off.

The citizens give UltraMan a standing ovation as he floats and waves. Stanley finally gets up with an angry look on his face. He dusts himself off and sternly walks up to UltraMan. After the standing ovation is done and the people begin to disperse, UltraMan starts to fly away but is stopped when Stanley calls to him.

“Hey! UltraAsshole!,” Stanley screams in frustration.

Confused, UltraMan looks at Stanley before floating towards him. “Is everything ok, sir?” he asks.

“Actually, no. It is NOT ok. You ruined my day!” Stanley replies.

UltraMan lands on the ground and walks over to him. “Well, what seems to be the problem?”

Stanley looks him dead in his eyes. “I have somewhere to be in about 10 minutes and you ruined my only mode of transposition.”

UltraMan looks at the split bus then back at Stanley. “My apologies, sir. I was only trying to save the city…”

Stanley cuts him off mid-sentence in anger. “Aht, aht, aht! I don’t wanna hear that! I just wanna know how you’re gonna to fix this.”

UltraMan laughs and replies, “I understand your frustration, sir. What can I do for you?”

Stanley thinks for a second then replies, “I need you to take me to where I was going.”

UltraMan looks at Stanley as if to ask if he is serious. Stanley folds his arms and looks at UltraMan in frustration. Smiling nervously, UltraMan replies, “Sure, sir. I’ll do what I can.” Stanley quickly pulls out his phone and shows UltraMan the address he is heading to. He then checks his watch and says, “I have to be there in 5 minutes.”

UtraMan nods and replies, “No problem. Let’s go.”

He lifts Stanley by the arms and begins to fly away with him. Stanley looks down at the city, realizing they are not on solid ground and begins to panic. “Hey, hey, don’t drop me!” He chuckles nervously.

UltraMan laughs. “Never.” He purposefully flies a bit faster which causes Stanley to almost pass out.

They finally reach Stanley’s destination, The Bay Hotel. UltraMan lands and Stanley quickly jumps from his grasp.

“That was insane and I’m glad it’s over,” Stanley says as he gathers himself, “But it was kinda cool.” He takes his phone out to text Sharon that he’s outside. He looks at UltraMan.

“Sorry I called you UltraAsshole back there. I was just frustrated and I thought I’d be late. Thanks.”

They shake hands and UltraMan replies, “You’re very welcome, sir. Anytime.”

“The name is Stanley by the way.”

No problem, Stanley.” Before he flies away though, Stanley stops him. “I don’t know if this would be too much, but could you come and say hi to my girl? She loves you.”

UltraMan agrees and they walk into the hotel lobby. Inside, everyone is starstruck by a hero being up close. A few people snap pictures and scream before the two reach the elevator and go up to the 5th floor. They step out and walk to Sharon’s room.

“She is gonna FLIP when she sees you, man!” Stanley says excitedly. UltraMan laughs.

They reach the door and Stanley knocks. After a few seconds, Sharon appears. “Finally! You made it…” She abruptly stops talking, stands at the doorway, and stares at the duo.

Stanley smiles, thinking he knows why. “Eh? Look who I brought!”

Sharon looks at Stanley in shock and worry then back at UltraMan. UltraMan, however, breaks the silence.

“Sharon?” Stanley looks at her in shock as understanding dawns on him. “You guys know each other?……Wait!”

Sharon sighs, “Stanley, it’s nothing.”

“It’s nothing?!” Stanley and Ultraman echo in unison.

Sharon sighs again, leaning on the door and folds her arms. “Yes. As I said, it was nothing. We had a little…fling.”

“You slept with UltraMan?!” Stanley shouts.

Sharon quickly pulls Stanley into the room and tries to shush him. UltraMan, now with a disappointed expression, looks at her.

“You said you’d wait for me…you said that you loved me…”

Sharon quickly shuts him up. “Nope, I never said that. I said that I loved the sex.”

Stanley decides to interrupt, standing between the two now.”You just used me as an object of your sexual desire?! That’s all I was to you?!”

Sharon sighs loudly again and rolls her eyes. “Clarence, please. You’re embarrassing yourself.”

UltraMan starts to cry but stops himself and wipes his eyes. “Next time you need a hero, don’t bother calling me.”

Stanley snickers, to which Sharon slaps his arm. UltraMan then smashes straight through the window in the hallway, shattering pieces all over. Sharon shakes her head then looks at Stanley and says, “Can you believe him? Some SUPER hero, huh?”

Stanley looks at her before backing away from the door. “Why didn’t you tell me about this?”

Sharon rolls her eyes then puts her hands on her hips and replies, “What does it matter?”

Stanley replies, stuttering, “He’s UltraMan!”

Sharon throws him a questionable look. “Wow. You’re that insecure?”

Stanley yells, “Insecure?!….HE’S ULTRAMAN!!!”

Sharon shakes her head for the millionth time, “So? What does it matter?”

Stanley looks at her sternly then replies, “Man…I’m out. Tell Batman I said what’s up.” He leaves and walks to the elevator.

Sharon sighs and walks back into her room, closing the door. As she reaches the bed and sits, her phone starts to ring. She looks at it, chuckles then answers.

“Yes, I’ll accept the charges……Hello?” she says.

The voice on the phone mumbles and she replies, “Wow. Did he catch you again? Some Captain Evil you are. I’m on the way.”

After ending the call, she heads out smiling evilly and her eyes begin to glow bright red.
